Boston was a major center of the movement, home to one of the nation’s first Arts & Crafts societies, founded in 1897. Bostonians excited by the movement’s ideals learned traditional skills like metalworking, bookbinding, and woodworking. Beacon Hill, with its charmingly old fashioned homes, drew these makers as a place to live and create.
Enjoy a stroll past artists’ homes and studios as we explore Arts & Crafts Beacon Hill at the turn of the 20th century. We’ll discuss utopian art communities, artist cooperatives, Craftsman architecture on the Hill, and more.
