“I determined to do no less than to transform the world with Beauty.”

–William Morris, designer and craftsman

Morris’ ideas about beauty, the role of the artisan, and the value of the handcrafted were influential for a generation of artists. Rose and Margaret Nichols were among those inspired by Morris and his peers in the Arts & Crafts Movement. Rose created carved wood and embroidered items to enliven the family’s homes, while Margaret hand built furniture. Both women also utilized their skills to improve the world around them, bringing the ideals of the Arts & Crafts Movement into other areas of their lives. On this special tour of the museum, we’ll take a close look at objects they created and explore how they aimed to transform the world.
