Join us, in this poetry-themed book club for Poetry Month, to explore Braithwaite’s work and his connections to literary Boston.

William Stanley Braithwaite was a Black poet and editor of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He had one foot in the pre-modern world, where he worked with Romantic poets like Charlie Gibson, and one foot in the modern world, including with the poets of the Harlem Renaissance. He was a poet himself, but his real claim to fame was editing anthologies. Join us, in this poetry-themed book club for Poetry Month, to explore Braithwaite’s work and his connections to Charlie Gibson and literary Boston. Friends and newcomers, alike!

Reading materials for this meeting will be provided. Participants will also be given a list of discussion questions the week prior to the event, and we’ll highlight connections between our museums and the book/ author. Todd Gernes, Professor of History at Stonehill College, will join us to provide some context and insight. Please bring a favorite line or quote from the text if you’d like to share!
